Puhos is a social realist, non-narrative video documentary about the Puhos shopping centre. The silent documentary has an instrumental soundtrack and depicts the life at the shopping centre at different times of the day. The video consists of shots of the architecture, daily life and labor, demonstrations and festivals that have taken place at the mall between 2016-2021.Puhos shopping centre is located in Itäkeskus area of Helsinki, Finland. The district is a busy transport hub for residents of Eastern Helsinki and is experiencing the first stages of gentrification. The mall was built in 1965 and was the largest shopping centre in Finland at that time. The centre has deteriorated over the years, but has also transformed into a vibrant meeting place and small business hub with a mosque (prayer room), shops, restaurants and community offices gathering people from diverse backgrounds. Despite the active characteristic of the place, the poor condition of the mall and the often negative media coverage of the centre has sparked prejudices about the shopping centre.
